In an earlier blog, we discussed about enhancing the SAP Lumira Designer application performance by reusing data sources with the help of the ‘Data Utility’ property for Visual BI extensions(VBX) Charts. The Data Utility property is not limited to VBX charts, our Advanced Table also supports data utility, making it possible to view different skews of data during design time and thus, providing the ability to reuse the data sources and optimize dashboard performance. To better illustrate this, let’s consider the following data source and connect it to both the native SAP Lumira Designer Crosstab and the VBX Table.
Data Source
Using Native SAP Lumira Designer Crosstab
As you can see in the following image, the native SAP Lumira Designer crosstab mirrors all the data from the data source without providing the ability to choose the desired dimensions and measures to be displayed. The only way you can limit the data or chose the desired dimensions or measures of your interest would be by filtering the data source, which is not an option that everyone will be willing to use.
Using Visual BI extensions (VBX) Advance Table – Data Utility
In the below example, you will notice that we were able to pivot the data, choose the desired dimensions (Product Category and Warehouse ID) and measures (Sales Amount and Quantity) from the Table, containing the available list of dimensions, and measures in the data source, without filtering it. This makes it easier to reuse the data source across multiple components since the it is not being affected. This may also be used in scenarios where you want a table to go along with a visualization without having to add another data source.
Here are the steps to create the above table using Data Utility:
- Connect the data source to the Table and navigate to the Data Tab
- Select the Data Utility Tab and check the Enable Data Utility option
- Select the Dimensions and Measures needed for the chart.
Our Table is ready!
